A New Chapter – Flourishing in Family Business

A New Chapter – Flourishing in Family Business

For years, The Family Business Podcast has been a space to learn from others, hearing from experts, advisers, and those living the family business experience. But as the work at The Family Business Partnership has evolved, so too has the podcast. This new chapter brings listeners closer to the heart of what really matters: the lived experience of families in business together.

Over two decades of working with family enterprises, I’ve seen the same questions arise time and again. Not “How do we structure the business?” or “What’s the tax impact?” but deeper, human questions:

  • How do we stay connected as a family while making difficult decisions?

  • How do we balance legacy with change?

  • How do we flourish, as individuals, as a family, and as a business?

Flourishing, to me, means moving from a place of fear or reaction toward one of clarity, confidence, and purpose. It’s about progress, not perfection. When a family focuses on flourishing, it becomes intentional about why it’s in business together, and begins to create a life that feels fulfilling and whole, not just financially successful.

At the core of this approach are The Ten Principles of Flourishing, a framework that helps families create clarity, confidence, and trust across generations. These principles, from Empowered Ownership to Constructive Conflict Resolution, provide a shared language for families to reflect, communicate, and thrive.

This episode introduces that framework and marks the start of a new series exploring each of the Ten Principles in detail.

Listen to the full episode below and follow along as we explore what flourishing really looks like in practice.

In the next episode, we will explore the first principle, Empowered Ownership, beginning with one simple but powerful question:

Why are you in business together?
